In addition to Agamar, who has come as a member of the World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP) have come to this event organizations around the world related to the world of fishing. In this respect, there is a total absence of women’s issues in this code, so WFFP demanded from the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the FAO greater presence of women at all levels since in reality the woman is present in every phase of fishing, from extraction through to the sale and consumption. Besides meeting with the FAO itself, on Wednesday 4th, took place a reunion parallel of WFFP, where different members have spoken of the agency to expose their problems and concerns. In this act, Natalia Laiño, General Secretary of Agamar, highlighted the role of shellfisherwoman in Galicia as an example to be considered by other organizations, but also took the opportunity to demand greater recognition of women fish workers worldwide, Which asserted that elements such as organization, education and awareness are essential.

    Rome 2010 (14-17 June)
roma200903Meeting held at FAO Headquarters in Rome from 14, 15, 16 and June 17, 2010 with the aim of discussing global governance in agriculture, fisheries and food. In recent years research has focused on five areas of interest are as follows:

    - Via Campesina wants to understand the disconnection between FAO headquarters and regional offices and national

    - Via Campesina wants a single space to design policies and governance of the UN food and agriculture

    - Via Campesina wants to FAO returns to its mandate and respond to the schedule of the Via Campesina,

    - Via Campesina wants to know more about the monitoring process ICARRD

    - Via Campesina wants to know the plans of the Secretariat of the treaty after the meeting in Tunez.

These five points are intended to provide greater insight to the developments that are to FAO and which are of specific importance to the strategic objectives of the Via Campesina in relation to issues of food and farming of the UN. Among others: the growing absence of explicit areas of FAO’s work to address the political and social dimensions of development; the precariousness of the FAO’s relations with civil society, questions remain about the role of FAO within the UN institutional architecture for food and agriculture. Among others, have considered issues such as trends in production, consumption, trade, prices, policy changes that affect markets and trade in agricultural commodities and trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization (WTO). Agamar attended this event as the sole representative of the World Forum Fisher Peoples (WFFP). In this sense, Manolo Maneiro, General Secretary of the Association, based its action primarily on two points. On the one hand expressed his opposition regarding the organization of the FAO and the base should have greater weight than it does now, that is, increasing the importance of those workers are responsible for assessing the needs and situation and the various sub-sectors of the peasant movement and fisheries. Furthermore, no comment Agamar prone to transfer to other countries for models that did not work here, because they look more economic use to the survival of the subsectors.
